Interior Mural for Bar

Night Drop Bar

It was so great to draw on the walls of Night Drop, a bar in the Walnut Hills neighborhood of Cincinnati! Housed in an old bank building, it sits below Branch Restaurant on the main floor. Both venues are from the restaurant group who owns the Littlefield and Second Place in Northside. I met with Matt Distel, who was inspired by Bemelmen’s Bar in NYC. The Carlyle Hotel's sophisticated, upscale piano bar, is adorned with Ludwig Bemelmans' famed murals. Ludwig Bemelman was the illustrator of Madeline picture books and the walls of the bar show the drawings as vignettes. The art direction I received was to wander around the neighborhood with my sketchbook and draw people I met, the landscape, and architecture. I chose acrylic paint markers as a medium for the walls because they facilitated the process of drawing much more than a painting brush.
