This fall I’ve been drawing on the walls of Night Drop — a new bar that will be opening in the Walnut Hills neighborhood of Cincinnati. Housed in an old bank building, there will be a restaurant named Branch on the top floor. It’s a venture of the restaurant group who owns the Little Field and Second Place in Northside. I first met with Matt Distel to learn about the project and D.J. Trischler to see the branding he was developing. I kicked around Walnut Hills for several weeks drawing and observing and drawing some more and talking to as many people as I could in order to hear their stories.
After deciding on a medium, acrylic paint markers, and experimenting with using a projector I feel I’ve gained momentum this week. I look forward to the next few sessions drawing in this space and enjoying a drink at the bar when it is completed!
Our flight back east was on THE busiest travel day EVER according to TSA. It was the weekend before fourth of July week, where the holiday landed on a Wednesday. This poor woman was outnumbered by her children and they were definitely winning.
Maybe because the big noisy “party” boat was out of the lake for repair or because I was sick and just sitting on the swing quietly — but I was able to observe and enjoy a wonderful variety of wildlife on the shore of Sadawga Lake in Vermont. I was reading a David Sedaris book when along came a groundhog walking right by my feet! BTW I love to draw the waffle pattern on lawn chairs.
