ART NEWS
Open Studio this SATURDAY
Stop by to visit my first dedicated studio space outside of my home in many years. (Still blessed to be a part of the Visionaries + Voices community). Since moving into 2968 Jessamine St. in Camp Washington, I’ve been able to work LARGER and participate in MORE EXHIBITIONS! Thank you to my boyfriend, Ricky Nye for co-existing with my art projects in our home. On Saturday, Oct. 12 stop in between 12-4pm to make something out of paper mache — I will be providing a demo and all the supplies you need. Sunflower art and merch is available for sale in my studio. This artwork was developed for the Gorman Heritage Farm’s Sunflower Festival!
Center for Great Neighborhoods Triptych Mural
I was recently assigned a triptych mural by The Center for Great Neighborhoods in Covington, KY. It is NOW installed on the Triptych Art Fence at Hellmann Creative Center at 321 W. MLK Boulevard, Covington, KY 41011. Cate Douglas at the center commissions new murals from local artists every 12 months. There are (2) sets of 3 panel murals — one for each side of the fence, and at the six month mark, they rotate the murals to street side and building side. L.D. Nehls created the other set of murals — which are absolutely beautiful — slow down or park your car at the Hellman Center soon to check them out!

Clifton Sketchbook Project
I was drawing in the Clifton neighborhood of Cincinnati over the weekend. Thank you to the friendly people I encountered who were kind to let me draw them on my paper scroll. I made this set up starting with a light-weight drawing board and attached a handle and (2) paper towel holders to hold the roll of paper.
When I met my friend Anne Skove to see the gallery space at St. John’s Unitarian Universalist Church in Clifton — what really intrigued me was a very long wall in the space. I have often wanted to make a drawing scroll on paper observing people in the city. I have a book by Richard Parks (Bay Area figurative painter) of his painted scroll, that accordion folds out that also inspires me. It is something as an introvert to venture out and meet new people to draw, emotions range from being anxious to joyful!
These long drawings of landscapes, people, and architecture in Clifton will be shown in October at St. John’s with an opening reception on Sunday, October 20, 2024 from 4-6 pm. If people are interested in sections of the scroll, I would be amenable to selling it by the foot! The address is 320 Resor Ave., Cincinnati, OH 45220
Café Society Art Exhibition
For this collection of drawings I thought about how to frame the line art drawings in a unique way. I experimented with modifying standard frames with foam core, card board and paper mache to design unexpected frame shapes. Other frames I simply painted and .the swing dancers I modified a shadow box to create the diorama depicting the Caveau de la Huchette club in Paris!
Thank you to everyone that came to the opening reception and also to those that purchased work! What a great night with Ricky Nye on piano. Thank you to folks that I met along the way at Muse Café during the run of the show.
Café Society Art Opening
Come view artwork about coffee and travel, meet the artist and enjoy lovely snacks and drinks at Muse Café! It’s located on the corner of Montana and Harrison in Westwood at 3018 Harrison Ave.
The exhibition has original drawings for sale. Some in frames I’ve modified with paper mache — A MUST SEE!
I’m happy to share the night with pianist Ricky Nye!

As reference:
Café Society was the description of the "Beautiful People" and "Bright Young Things" who gathered in fashionable cafés and restaurants in New York, Paris and London beginning in the late 19th century. Maury Henry Biddle Paul is credited with coining the phrase "café society" in 1915 — let's do it again in Westwood in 2024!
Valentine Couple’s Portraits!
Thank you to all the great couples that sat for portraits at A.R.T. Gallery.
My biggest concern was fitting 2 people on 1 sheet of paper, as I usually draw one person’s portrait at a time. And having enough time for drawing. I brought 9x12 size sheets instead of the regular sketchbook size and think I got some pretty great likenesses and had fun conversations! As far as timing I allotted 20 minutes a couple and was running behind so next time I’ll spread the spots out a bit. All in all a big success. Thankful for Sharon and Dave for being the models on my promo image!
It’s a Wrap!
I’m happy to have participated in (4) Holiday Art Shows this year. It was wonderful to meet many new people, talk about cats, paper mache and my art process and show off the paper mache cat cafe!
During the shows, I met some great folks who ordered custom art from me. Here are a few of these commissions:

Come shop the Handmade Paper Mache Cat Cafe!
By popular demand by cat-lovers everywhere — I am proud to share the newest miniature cat cafe in Cincinnati. I’ll be showing the complete piece of art and each individual piece will be for sale until they are gone. Items available are cats, furniture, people and plants made of paper mache, wool rugs handmade with punch needle, and miniature fine art prints (framed in foam core). I’m excited to announce my Summer 2023 Surface Pattern Design Portfolio! It contains 3 new pattern collections: Dandelions, Pasta Tonight!, and Spring Chickens. This portfolio features the patterns that grew from each theme and the rationale behind choosing these subjects. See the unique color palettes built for the collections and the versatile patterns that can be used on a wide range of products. Included are mock-ups that help visualize the patterns in practical applications. These pattern collections are available to license now, and I am also available to work on assignment on custom projects.
Fox and the Hen illustrations
The direction for the project included drawing a fox and hen interacting with each other, and to specifically include drawings of a fox pouncing (on their prey) — if you’ve never seen this phenomenon — look it up because it is REALLY cool!
I had the opportunity to work on a project with an amazing graphic designer in Denver, Colorado. He needed drawings to use in developing the brand for a new brunch restaurant called “Fox and the Hen”. The restaurant concept was developed with Chef Carrie Baird of Season 15 Bravo’s Top Chef and Chef Michael Fox of Denver.
The direction for the project included drawing a fox and hen interacting with each other, and to specifically include drawings of a fox pouncing (on their prey in the snow) — if you’ve never seen this phenomenon — look it up because it is REALLY cool! I provided many drawings and different poses of the two. For the next phase he asked for breakfast item drawings they could use for the menu and website. This was great fun because well, breakfast is my favorite meal and mostly because I love to explore and research and keep on drawing until one thing leads to another.
I am delighted to see the resulting restaurant branding and how the designer integrated my line drawings with the uber colorful, fun yet sophisticated photography and design. Collaboration is a beautiful thing — please go see Fox and the Hen website to see what I’m talking about!
