City Council Bootcamp Illustrated Toolkit

Action Tank

Action Tank produces toolkits with the purpose of educating and empowering members of the community. They partner with artists to research and promote new public policy solutions at the local government level. My assignment as a creative was to make something so (take out "so") visually compelling for use not only on a local level, but to help Action Tank with their initiative to sell licensees to organizations throughout the country.

My role was to interpret the information and make illustrations for each section. The illustrations needed to grasp often intangible concepts and present them in an accessible way in order to inspire readers to embrace the information. I was tasked with assuring the people drawn were diverse as well as visually setting the stage for information on the following pages.

The graphic design brief included creating the overall look and feel of the manual, and using headings and folios to keep this large book organized (202 pages). The client sent files to many different styles of documents (-) I was tasked with redesigning these pages to match the visual brand and bringing them into the appendices and building internal links within the pdf. I assured the table of contents was very useful and interactive. At the beginning of the project, I improved the City Council Bootcamp logo design, (take out comma) which they have been since been using to identify the program.
